Community Project: Solid State Dye Laser using PMMA (Acrylic/Perspex) [Pic Heavy]

I’m not hold out hope to find that surplus, but someone might answer with a solution to building one, but I think you may have already found a way with the quartz plates.

You never know who has surplus stock from old dyes they’ve bought in the past that no longer work. The quartz looks like it needs to be cut a certain way. It would be a great coincidence if microscope quartz slides happened to be cut like that.

Not what you can use, if I understood you, but interesting find: 3" Omega 570AF30-75mm 570nm Bandpass Filter Laser Fluorescence 555-585nm 570/30 | eBay

They are pretty cool. I’ll look at them when I get back. Just popping out. Btw, it appears it’s the crystal structure of the quartz not the cut of the quartz. From what I can see though there is two types. So 50% chance of getting the birefringence type.

Had a look at those parts, they are pretty neat if you needed those components. Not a bad price either.

These people sell stuff too cheap, but they also don’t pack items well enough to prevent damage by the post office, in shipment. I stopped buying from them after too many damaged optics, they have no clue how to pack.

That’s pretty poor when you are dealing with delicate optical components.

I complained to svcstore several times before pulling the plug on them after they said I would be blocked from buying if I kept complaining (I was not even giving ebay feedbacks), they continued to pack like crap on additional orders anyway, worst packing I’ve ever seen in my life so I told them I was done buying from them and they blocked me. They treat their stuff like trash because that is what it is, they are paid to haul this stuff off from Coherent as hazardous waste and from what I gather, a Coherent employee is getting a cut of their sales for helping them describe the item for their ebay listings, they know nothing about lasers.

There is a response to my PL post: BUYING lyot filter/birefringence tuner (photonlexicon.com)

Might have to rethink using a birefringence filter. They are not cheap. Also not sure if I could go down the ITAR route.

Yes, ITAR is a problem

Yes, I am not sure if I would be allowed to utilise a US controlled optic. I’m an ally to the US, and not utilising it in a Chinese/Russian project. But a bit silly now that birefringence optics are available to them.

See last couple of posts: BUYING lyot filter/birefringence tuner (photonlexicon.com)

Wow, what an impressive looking system that is from. I presume it will be transmissive, but if you can find out for sure it will be excellent. My concern is the cost and the legality.

Yes, if ITAR I need to research to see if it is still currently restricted and if the UK is part of that restriction. May be moot anyway, his price might scare me.

Use this as a guide Chris.

1" $269

Obviously these are single plates and will not be the same as what he has. I assume his will be multistack off plates.
